About Chris and drumLIFE
Hi, my name is Chris Becom. I developed drumLIFE after more than 15 years of experience as a performer, college and graduate student, performer, music teacher and researcher of various world music traditions.
Beginning with my days as a undergraduate student, I have had the good fortune to study with many renowned African and Latin American musicians. I also had the opportunity to perform with many of these teachers throughout North Carolina and throughout the northeast in a number of professional drumming and Latin Jazz ensembles.
As a graduate student and researcher in music and education at the University of Michigan, I explored how many world music traditions are interpreted by professional musicians, scholars, psychologists, and ethnomusicologists. Most importantly, I discovered an opportunity and need to develop a unique approach to teaching music, a program that appreciates various world music traditions and the people that create them. An approach that offers a deeper and richer understanding of music.
Currently, I am a music teacher at the Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR). MSR is an amazing experience that continues to offer more opportunities to meet incredible educators, students and insights in how drumLIFE can grow.

What's Next for drumLIFE?
Who knows how drumLIFE will expand. I foresee increased partnerships with local schools and community organizations. I also foresee more musicians coming on board and offering lessons in their particular specialty.
In the end, I hope that drumLIFE acts as a catalyst in connecting people and enriching lives. Feel free to offer a suggestion or participate in this discussion on the drumLIFE blog ...
