Educational Philosophy
One of my primary goals as a drum and percussion teacher is to use my experience as a musician to develop a student's overall sense of artistry and musicianship. This fact doesn't only apply to students who have had experience with hand percussion. Regardless if the student's primary instrument is the piano, voice, guitar or the snare drum, I guarantee my unique and personalized program will improve their musical abilities.
I also want to share the insights I have gained as a researcher in musicology, music anthropology and ethnomusicology to offer a sense of cultural awareness. I feel that studying World Music is an excellent vehicle to better our understanding and respect for the people that create them. Cultural awareness is a necessary ingredient for anyone to participate in the developing global economy.
Drumming for Everyone
Drums Inspire
Drums Bring People Together
And best of all ... drums are FUN for EVERYONE! Regardless if you are a middle or high school student, retired, or a college student, learning how to play hand drums can be cool, endless funs and life-changing!
Over the 15+ years I have spent as a music student, performer, researcher, teacher and graduate student, I have developed a strong respect and love for world percussion music. From the Bohdran of the Irish, the Washboard of the African American South to the congas from all over Latin American, I strive to understand the people that created the music as much as the music itself.
